gnibs is a comment layer for the web: highlight and annotate any page, and see the public annotations others have left on it. Here’s how to get going and where to get help.

Getting started

• Open gnibs on any page — click the gnibs toolbar icon, or press Alt+Shift+G (macOS) / Ctrl+Shift+G (Windows/Linux). The overlay stays with you as you browse until you dismiss it with ×.
• Annotate — select text to highlight it, add a note, or drop a reaction; the comment anchors to that spot for everyone who opens gnibs there.
• Sign in to post — sign in at gnibs.com, then open or refresh a gnibs.com tab; the extension reuses that session so your annotations save as you. Until then it works in read-only mode and shows public annotations.
• Choose who sees it — each note can be public, private, or directed to specific people. Treat anything you post as public unless you set it otherwise.

Troubleshooting

The keyboard shortcut doesn’t work.Some Chromium browsers (notably Arc) don’t auto-assign extension shortcuts, or reserve the combo for themselves. Set it yourself at chrome://extensions/shortcuts (in Arc, open arc://extensions→ Keyboard Shortcuts) — or just click the gnibs toolbar icon, which always works. If you don’t see the icon, pin gnibs from your browser’s extensions menu.

A note I left isn’t showing.gnibs re-finds your highlight by its surrounding text. If the page has changed substantially since you annotated it, the note may be marked “orphaned” and can’t be placed inline — it still appears in the gnibs panel.

I can’t post.Posting requires being signed in — see “Sign in to post” above. If you’re signed in and still stuck, sign out and back in at gnibs.com, then refresh.

Your data

• Export your annotations to Markdown or W3C Web Annotation JSON anytime from the gnibs panel.
• Delete individual annotations from their card. To delete your account and everything it made, open your profile page — or email privacy@gnibs.com and we’ll do it for you.
• Remove the extension anytime from chrome://extensions.
